Day of the Woman

My neglect of this blog has been criminal but I vow to try harder.
Anyway, I watched a movie I Spit on Your Grave also called Day of the Woman....and its a fearsome movie indeed. Definitely not for the fainthearted. Its such a confusing movie, I'm unsure to be shocked, offended or feel righteous (justice does prevail in the end).

A brief summary: A pretty writer, moves to a cabin near the woods to finish her novel. Four men, decide to procure her for their friend, a mentally challenged man, so that he could lose his virginity. They kidnap her ...this part includes running through the woods...and then brutally well, torture her repeatedly. And their treatment is beyond horrible...there's rape, beatings and a host of ill-treatment visited upon this girl by which time I had started to become exceedingly nauseous. She survives (how i don't know), and then proceeds to exact revenge on each of her assailants. And this is revenge - the old-fashioned way. An eye for an eye and all that.

By the time the movie was over, I was exhausted, depressed and totally out of sorts. Which I think must be exactly what the director intended.

P.S. I watched the 1978 original. Apparently a remake will be out soon.
